Cycling to Work Improves Mental Health – Have you ever wondered why our ancestors lived more healthfully than us? The common thing in them was that they had a particular routine and did not have any automation, which has played an essential role in their health. They have to walk most of the time or use a cycle to go from one place to another. Cycling energy all of their body parts and keeps them active and thus was one of the most critical players behind their healthy lifestyle.
But today, when there are a lot of automatons, there are rare ones who use cycles to go from one place to another because we have less time and we have to do a lot of work in our day. So we would use fast-speed vehicles to complete our work instead of going on our feet or through cycles. We might finish our work faster, but what about our health? Today, we are so busy that we can’t even have some time for physical activity of just 30 minutes. Which can lead to more frustration, depression, anxiety, or burnout-related issues, as well as can lead to various health concerns.

The five-year study has been published in the International Journal of Epidemiology and is based on data from over 378,253 people between the ages of 16-75 who live in Scotland.
The study suggests that cycling to work can help improve mental health to a great extent. The study was done on the people who work and live in the area of Edinburgh or Glasgow, were living one mile away from the cycle path, and did not have any prescriptions for ill mental health at the start of the study.
The results were shocking as they found after five years, there has been a reduction of around 15 percent of prescriptions for anxiety and depression in the people who use cycles to commute to their work as compared to those who use other means of transportation.
Using bicycles to go to work has a significant impact on women as compared to men as there has been seen more reduction in the mental health prescriptions of women than men. The research team behind this study has advised promoting active traveling to improve our infrastructure for a healthier life and mental health.
